July for Kings

July for Kings – Normal Life

One of my favorite 90s-3-Doors-Down, Matchbox Twenty-esque style bands is July for Kings who have been able to really replicate that sound extremely well and maintain my interest over their multi-year career.

Their record-label deubt album Swim (a tribute to their old band name) really defined their sound for me and I loved the acoustic ballads to near-metal rock that the group was seamlessly able to transition from. Normal Life, Believe, New Black Car… all are such great songs.

The group self-releassed Nostalgia a few years later and Monochrome was released after adding a new guitar member who influenced a more poppy sound but still with JFK underlying tones.. Both were well-received.

And what, may you ask prompted my re-visit to this solid band? They released a new CD a few weeks back called Middletown and I was super plesaed after my listen this morning. It’s everything I could have wanted from the group after a 6 year break from their last album and I hopefully look forward to even more songs from the group in future years.
