These guys just across my desk last week and were quite intriguing to me so I thought it’d be worth passing along to you all! These guys from Spokane, VA, formed in 2009 have working hard ever since to promote their group, recording their own DIY album (just released Paper House EP) and playing shows across the states gaining attention. Looking around for some information on the group, I rather enjoyed their own bio on Facebook..
“Over the Ocean came together in an undramatic fashion because of the respect they all have for the music they make. It developed and genuine, making sure not to deceive themselves or anyone else as their creative process too shape into something they could no longer ignore. [The] songs are self scrutinizing and keenly observant, the themes don’t approach anything unique; they approach a timeless problem of devotion in the face of solipsism. Centering on the issues of the issues of faith and self-delusion, the leveled dynamic of their lyrics were matched perfectly by the transcendent yet humble sonic landscape that never distract, but only emphasize.”
If that doesn’t make you want to at least check out their stuff, you must a bit little crazy. I did, and I’m fairly impressed. They certainly have a sound of their own, and one that is different (yet good enough) to keep me coming back for repeat re-listens. As I haven’t been able to buy their album just yet (I’ve been listening to their stuff on purevolume). I just included one of their music videos below for your enjoyment.
