That ‘LIVE’ sound

As I’m sure you know… there’s this weird alchemy that happens live where a song you’ve skipped dozens of times on an album suddenly becomes undeniable.

It happened to me again this summer, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. You know the drill: you’re at a show, the band launches into a track you’ve mentally filed under “fine, I guess,” and then BOOM – the energy shifts, the crowd loses it, the guitars hit different through a PA, and suddenly you’re like “wait… have I been sleeping on this the entire time?”

It’s not even about the performance being objectively better. Sometimes it’s just context. The album version felt flat or overproduced or just didn’t land in your headphones, but live? Live it makes SENSE. The dynamics are more obvious, the urgency is real, the parts that felt like filler suddenly feel essential.

I’m going to start to keep a running list of these moments because they keep happening, and honestly it’s made me second-guess my initial album takes more than once.
