This week while I had a little bit of unexpected free time, I was browsing through some old subreddits I had saved and one was a ‘I’VE DISCOVERED LIZZY MCALPINE AND I’M IN LOVE NOW GIVE ME ALL ARTISTS LIKE LIZZY MCALPINE’ post which I laughed at as a) i have ZERO recollection of saving this, but b) it’s 1000% something i would do. So, i dug in… and friendssssssss…. it d e l i v e r e d.
Allow me to introduce you to…
Searows… hushed indie folk; think Julien Baker and Lizzy McAlpine, with the emotional gravity of phoebe bridgers/bon iver, some sufjan stevens, that falsetto iron & wine thing with bedroom production
Grace Gardner… 70s soft rock meets emo-tinged indie folk; think early Phoebe Bridgers meets Maddison Cunningham, with a dash of Mitski’s raw intimacy.
Carol Ades… melancholy pop with an 80s shimmer; somewhere between The Sundays and Olivia Rodrigo, with Chappell Roan flair and Maggie Rogers heart.
Leanne Firestone… bedroom girl-with-guitar pop meets alt-soul; kinda Clairo, kinda Remi Wolf, a little bit RAYE/Olivia energy underneath.
Georgia Parker… stripped-down folk, phoebe bridgers/adrianne lenker, some joni mitchell, jeff buckley level emotion with that raw english songwriter thing
Jensen McCrae… literary indie folk; think Phoebe Bridgers meets Tracy Chapman, with the precision of Joni Mitchell and the quiet ache of Samia.
So, anyway, just a nice, happy indie/girl pop listening week. Thanks reddit. Thanks Lizzy.
