Even If It Kills Me ? / Down to Earth Approach

If you’ve ever wondered what it was really like to be a mid-2000s pop punk band grinding it out on the road and getting ever so close, but so far from ‘making it’, the podcast Even If It Kills Me is a surprisingly fun little time machine that I enjoyed listening to over the last few days. It pulls back the curtain on the not-so-glamorous life of chasing a music dream in the 2004–2006 heyday; think long van rides, questionable sleeping and pooping arrangements, and the slow-burn hope that this might be the tour that makes it all worth it. The podcast promises that you’ll never hear the band or learn their name as it’s all about the human element nature of this journey…

That said, after only a little light sleuthing okay, fine, redditing—the “mystery band” turns out to be Down to Earth Approach. I’d never heard of them before, but I spent a half-enjoyable morning dipping into their catalog. Definitely a nostalgic gem if you’re into that melodic, slightly scrappy pop punk sound that instantly smells like sunscreen, dust, and Hot Topic wristbands (you all remember Warped Tour, don’t you??? definitely referenced in series)

It’s part nostalgia trip, part behind-the-scenes diary, and totally worth a listen if you ever lived—or just wished you lived—that Warped Tour summer dream.
