I can’t say i’ve written about rap in QUITE a few posts… just haven’t found any recent sound that’s super landed with me and got me excited (or just hit me on the right day) until I learned about Samara Cyn the other day which came to my attention by way of Switched on Pop, one of my favorite music podcasts these days. I hear a TON of styles in her loose, soul-soaked, but slighty jazzy game… little of Dijon, Childish, Missy Eliot, maybe some Lauryn Hill?.. Overall, i’m pretty impressed with this Tennessee, southern root x West Coast rap artist who’s only really dropped 3 EPs to date – excited to hear what she continues to drive and do.
