Jutes was an another Instagram algorithm feeder post and after listening to his album Sleepytime over the weekend, I feel like we’ve found one of those artists who can really confidently live in the overlap between genres … from pop-punk energy, to some alt-rock grit, to nu-metal edges, a little emo melodrama, and honestly… enough pop sensibility to make everything stick which found myself headbobbing numerous times throughout a discography dive this past weekend. His songs are big and emotional without tipping into over-polished, and there’s this self-aware, slightly unhinged edge that keeps things interesting in a way that honestly, yungblood never made it for me, despite numerous attempts at trying to get into him. And with Demi Lovato as his new wife and probably accelerating his reach even further (maybe… that’s how he came across my feed?? Although.. I don’t follow Demi but i do follow other similar-ish pop artists so maybe?? dunno) i hope to continue to hear cool things from this guy as time goes on.
