Static Dress

Static Dress was the big discovery this week, and they’re kind of blowing me away. If Emery, Bring Me the Horizon, and Underoath ever decided to Frankenstein together a band that refuses to play by the verse-chorus-verse rulebook, this might be what you’d get. Their songs twist and turn instead of following a straight path – you never really know if you’re heading into a breakdown, a whisper, or a wall of noise, and that unpredictability is half the fun.

This UK post-hardcore/emo revival outfit formed in 2018, but real provide a lovely throwback to the 2000s metalcore scene, and they’ve made a name for themselves not just with chaotic, genre-smashing tracks, but also with their whole DIY visual world (think comics, cryptic videos, mysterious lore). They’re not afraid to be weird, dramatic, and loud, but underneath it all, there’s this emotional thread that makes the chaos hit even harder.

So if you’re into bands that play by their own rules and make the ride worth it—Static Dress are 100% worth a listen.
