Hail the Sun came up on my shuffle the other day and I had forgotten my genuine affection for the group.. Especially for the song ‘Ow! (SPLIDAO!) I Like It, Though’ below.
So the song got me on a kick and I went searching for some other bands in a similar genre.. The search was not in vain.
Sianvar
Featuring members of Dance Gavin Dance, A Lot Like Birds, Hail the Sun (quite a supergroup, don’t you think?) their debut self-titled EP really is an excellent post-hardcore mix of Circa Survive and Fall of Troy. I very much enjoy Chest Pressure, which was one of their first singles.
So I was pleased with the find but I wanted to keep diving.. Luckily, I stumbled across Blue Swan Records which produced Sianvar’s EP above, but also helped introduce me to the band below..
Stolas
Another smaller super group already gaining a TON of traction in the scene is Stolas and their debut album, Living Creatures. While the group’s vocals are generally a bit too much for my normal everyday taste, I do love the intricate guitar and musicality behind every vocal melody.. And when the lead vocalist decides to sing.. He’s got a decent enough voice.
