For many music enthusiasts, it’s the instruments, beat, or mood that draw them in. For me, it’s the vocals. I can often tell within the first 20-30 seconds whether I’ll enjoy a song and even if I’ll finish listening to it. This sometimes leads me to dismiss a band or vocalist prematurely, only to rediscover them later and appreciate their music. As I mentioned in my year-end recap, I spend most of my time discovering new bands, listening to thousands of artists annually, and vocals are my top priority. Everything else in a song is a bonus. I struggle to articulate what I’m looking for in vocals, but I know it when I hear it.
Moving on from my listening habits, let’s talk about dEMOTIONAL from Sweden. One thing that consistently stands out about dEMOTIONAL is their unique vocal style, which I absolutely love. I’ve yet to find another band that blends voices quite like they do. The harmonies captivate me and refuse to let go. I’m also one of those people who experience a physical response when music resonates deeply: the hair on the back of my neck stands up, and I get chills. I’m not entirely sure if it’s specific frequencies or something else that triggers this reaction, but when it happens, it’s generally a good sign that the music hits the right spot.
On to the music! I hope you all dig it!
We will start with their newest single Yesterday
And follow it up with an older favorite of mine, Monster
