Five Iron Frenzy = Brilliance

A short but sweet little update today.

First of all, my love for Five Iron Frenzy goes on and it will never cease. As time goes on with this blog, my goal is to introduce everyone to quirkly little things I hear in music and how fun little bits of music brilliance makes it for a music listener.

So, Five Iron, on the eve of the rise,  released a new song ‘It Was a Dark and Storm Night’ and it was loved by everyone, including yours truly. Backing their KICKSTARTER project (something you all should do btw), allowed me to get access to watch Sonnie teach us to play the guitar and introduce to even more in-depthness of the song.. So much so that now my band will be playing the cover during our revival set in a few weeks back at Augustana.. Most excellent.

My favorite section is around 1:11 seconds in.. Love the rock out of the guitars and the clarity of the horn section blasting away..

Now give it another 17 seconds (1:28) .. Yes!! You heard right, the guitar just played the same darned thing as the horns did in their interlude. I’ve never heard Five Iron do this repeating bit before, but I’m a huge fan of finding little discoveries like this.. Definitely made the song that much sweeter in my opinion.. Hope you feel similarly!
