Brent Walsh – Free
For those of you who don’t know, Brent is the lead singer of I the Mighty which is one of my favorite rock bands out right now. If you haven’t heard their new record, Connector, yet… my goodnes.. Go.
Last November, Brent decided to release a solo album called 7. After many hesitations based on a fairly ‘average’ review from a buddy of mine, I finally gave it a listen and was fairly pleased with what my ears heard!
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a weird album. Brent has definitely dumped a bunch of odd collection tracks on this CD and I would never dare to call it a singer-songwriter acoustic effort. There are acapellas tracks which lead into in light EDM efforts, a light rap track, some piano ladden with distortion songs (see Free above), and other straight pop acoustic songs. It’s odd, it’s weird, but it’s cool to see a really solid glimpse into the mind of Brent Walsh and what he had in there which couldn’t be considered for an ITM record.
I’ll definitely revist some of these songs again and again and it’s nice to see the extension of the I the Mighty world..
