Okay, the last post hinted at the fact that i was going to write about artists that had done it all themselves. Writing, Recording, (mostly) Producing. As a musician myself, it’s just such an insane feat to consider and I hold these artists in the highest possible regard.. it’s so hard..
Without really thinking too hard, I knew of at least four immediately myself..
1. Dave Grohl on the first Foo Fighters album… which, while not my favorite, really does show his undeniable talent and what was about to be…
and this Play song of his is really awesome…
2. Aaron Gillespie on his ‘The Almost – Southern Weather’ album which is such an incredible album that I love. I think he may of done the first two The Almost records by himself.. breaking by the third one..
3. Justin Vernon on his Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago – band.. really, that Wisconsin-cabin isolation feel which isn’t 100% my favorite, but i fully respect it..
and 4. Tom Scholz’s .. Boston.

And then I knew figured there had to be more… so i did outsource a list to our friend chat… and there are so many more to add to the list.. God, my respect has just continued to grow and grow…
– Prince – For You and 1999 albums… – well, duh… Prince was just so freakin prolific… that makes sense..
– Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) like, all of their songs!
– a few Paul McCartney solo albums – McCartney 1970 and McCartney II 1980
– Todd Rundgren’s Something/Anything double abum
– Trent! Oh… of course, Trent Reznor would do so much of his own shizz..
– Wolfgang Van Halen.. – discussed last post..
– Sufjan Steven’s Illinois album.. except for the horn parts.. (a personal favorite of mine)..
– Imogen Heap – of course with just guest instrumentalists..
– Jacob Collier – this makes sense… this kid is a prodigy.. and I’m seriously considering 3D printing/building his 5 string guitar for the kid to play with..
– Joe Mulherin’s Nothing, Nowhere project which was a duh to me.. his earlier work at least just rips.
– James Blake’s Overgrown and self-titled.. yup.
– Chet Faker/Nick Murphy’s Built on Glass album! Oh that’s a new one for me i didn’t know about…
– Jeremy Zucker!! Ah yes, i just posted about him too… all of his stuff is his own.. right of course. He’s solid
– early Blackbear – his deadroses album
– Patrick Stump’s Soul Punk
– Lenny Kravitz has a few
– Stevie Wonder has a few albums
– Joji’s first few – BALLADS 1 and SMITHEREEENS
– Grimes – sure.
– Tom Misch – yup, of course…
– FKJ (French Kiwi Juice) – didn’t realize this, but that’s cool.
– Mura Masa… yes..
Obviously, this list can go on and on and on… I only noted the artists above that I was pretty familiar with.. there are quite a bit more. Just overly impressive. music is cool. this list makes me happy. I’ll be sure to update this post as I discover new ones myself..
