It’s easy for musical things to get stuck in my head, especially for things I’ve never heard before and Knocked Loose certainly lodged itself in my brain this week.. They are absolutely BLOWING up the metal scene these days and their latest album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To is super, super popular. I did try and give it a listen several months back and I can’t admit its my thing, … just almost TOO MUCH on the heavy/screaming side of it all, so I stopped thinking about them after a few listens.
Fast forward to last week, when JIMMY KIMMEL decides to throw them up on his platform and give these guys a real mainstream introduction.
I mean, frankly, they CRUSHED this performance. Poppy was a great add. It’s still not for me, but they very obviously did their thing and dominated…
SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT.
Dear Reader, I like a solid ‘BLEGH’ as much as the next guy (probably not as much as THIS GUY who I follow on insta who only posts his favorite bleghs, but I do still like them quite a bit) and Bryan’s ARF ARF is the FIRST thing that really lodged itself in my musical brain this week. I can’t say I’ve heard anything like it, outside of the fact that I love it and I cannot get it out of my head. The SECOND THING IS HIS FREAKIN PIG SQUEAL. Apparently these pig squeals are a thing! Like what the actual eff is this. A) HOW DO YOU DO IT b) HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH IT, c) WHY ON EARTH IS THIS A THING and d) HOW CAN GET THIS ALSO GET SO THOROUGHLY LODGED IN MY BRAIN THAT I CAN’T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE FOR A WHOLE WEEK.
So, i did some research for you and this video is enough… just truly fascinating. There are low squeals, guttural squeals, high, squeals… Time for a tutorial..
.. Here’s a short…
Folks.. this.. can’t be unlearned.
…
Um, where do we go from here.
Anyway, they crushed the performance – at least in my opinion – and so many interesting musical things to talk about.. However, The pushback WAS SWIFT AND FIERCE.
Nik Noktural (who I also enjoy following) does a pretty good job going through the whole thing, so I’ll post his video(s) below to kinda bring you all up to speed.
The band has responded in kind and stands by their performance, which I fully support/understand, as does the metal community. Personally, I don’t think Jimmy has to apologize either for putting on a band like KL. Music is what it is. People like what they like. No need to get mad about it.
