Can I Be Selfish…?

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad that Mr. Timberlake is back, but why do the latest tracks just like, hit me like it’s a much more grown up version of Bieber tracks? I like them, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like the Biebs could have done them too. Even like, half steals the ‘glad your mama made you’ line which just .. which just…disappoints me a bit. Not saying the Biebs could have done them as well, but he could have. And we waited for YEARS for this? Ha. C’mon Justin. The only part of either Selfish or Drown is about 2:45 into DROWN where it does just get creative/branch out a bit to remind me/us this can venture differently than where most pop goes today and it makes me excited (AND hopeful) for the rest of the album.

I want a better album than Man of the Woods. And man, what a serious pressure this guy has to be under to deliver. How many tracks were written/produced taken all the way there and then were just
deemed NOT good enough? Or fell into the ‘could this be a Man of the Woods’ track or a ’20/20’ track? I’d seriously pay good money for whatever songs of his fell to the chopping room floor throughout his career. Be a fascinating tale to tell. 20/20 is just such a pinnacle to try and hit come every album cycle. It was just so….complex musically. Went so many places with so many good, perfectly constructed layers and was just such a mature sound. I’m hopeful Justin. With these first two singles, you’ve given me 1:45 of hope. Does that make me…selfish?? #sorrynotsorry
