LOVE IT when my ears catch just, the SLIGHTEST, RANDOM-IST bit of music embedded in every day culture.
This time, turns out to be The Hunger Games, believe it or not and although I can’t provide you the direct scene (watch an indirect clip from youtube below) – trust me that the scene is where we meet Caesar Flickerman for the first time inside the opening ceremony about to meet each tribute personally. If you have the movie handy, between minutes 50:01 and 53:33 should do it.
Check out that BRASS ROCKING IN THE BACKGROUND as Caesar is introduced! Being only the second time I’ve watched the film, imagine my surprise when I recognized a familiar tune.
No… I can’t say I really expected the Hunger Games to seriously have a track produced by Childish Gambino and released on his mixtape Royalty (click the image for a free download), so I took a deeper look.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, an eight-piece, Chicago based group renowned for their ability to capture an audience with only horns and a drum set whose work has been featured alongside rappers, Prince, Gorillaz, and even the B52s. Pretty impressive. They’ve played around the world in New York, London and even sold out the Sydney Opera House. The song you’ve been listening to you in the few videos above is War, their largest hit to date.
