Skrillex – who?

Okay.. who is Skrillex? What is ‘dub-step’ for that matter? .. Apparently, I’ve been completely missing this entire  world of late night clubbing with industrial beats weaving in and out of electronic loops.. Perhaps it’s because I don’t go outside in the big cities from 2-7am, but this beat is pretty crazy.

Skrillex started off the rock/post-hardcore world singing for the band From First to Last and developing his affinity for the music scene until he eventually broke off in 2008 to do his own thing and start producing and developing dub step full time. The two videos below show the ridiculousness of some of his creations. The first is him performing one of his songs in a nightclub in Vegas; the people and the show just looks INSANE.. Way too much for me to even process handling, but I can certainly appreciate the beat and the intricate-ness of the music.

This second video is the one that actually turned me on to this whole craze.. It’s a band that actually does a cover of one of Skrillex’s best known songs to date. What gets me is that even in a garage, the group manages to sound great, the recording quality is superb and WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THE BASS PLAYER AROUND :55 seconds in !?!?!? So insane, a glove type -wah pedal thing? I have no idea what to even make of it, other than it perfectly matches Skrillex’s song so I give the guys credit And then the MINI KEYBOARD ON THE GUITAR!? Craziness.. Decent guitar work too , cool loops mixed into the M-audio keyboard.. I was impressed enough to get excited about his work haha.

Overall, I’m downloading Skrillex’s stuff as soon as I get the opportunity to. I’m still not the biggest fan of industrial/beat/house music, but this has certainly caught my attention enough to make a post of it.
