Caspian/O’Brother

I have been a fan of Moving Mountains for quite some time now and when I learned that they would heading on tour this Spring, I was stoked! Finally a chance to see a band perform some great ambient, vocal rock music..and then..I realized they weren’t planning on coming out to Chicago and were staying focused on the East Coast.  🙁

Although it was a sad day, discovering the two bands they were touring with, CASPIAN and O’BROTHER, almost made up for the fact I won’t get to see them live.

Caspian is a band that has been heavily focused on the instrumental aspect of their music and it certainly never lulls you or puts you to sleep. In fact, each song is carefully and excellently constructed that the intricate melodies keep you pouring through each one of their four releases to date. Below is my favorite:

O’Brother on the other hand is a much more..grittier..angry..something-to-prove-to-the world type band and their vocalist Tanner Merritt certainly makes his point known throughout the tunes. The dark, dark melodies of this group and their musical patterns have kept me engaged right from the start. Their major release to date is Garden Window and my favorite video to give you a great idea of the band is Ascension:
