Kiana Ledé is one of those artists who… I actually can’t remember where i first heard her … maybe it was a /r/listentothis (?) anyway…. is just an awesome expression of my favorite kind of modern R&B right now and is just at the top of her game… which is impressive for someone who started young acting and singing on the Disney circuit (Nickelodeon, Disney XD, voice work, the whole thing) before making a pretty clean pivot into this R&B.
Her music sits in that sweet spot of modern R&B where the production is uber smooth and contemporary, and the songwriting just makes you continually bop along to her whole discography and find excellent nuggets throughout – think a matured Ella Mai, Snoh Aalegra, and so many others.
Her latest albums KIKI and Grudges show how comfortable she is moving between vulnerability and confidence, heartbreak and bite. She’s just a dominant force in this scene and one of my favorite finds lately.
