I mainly write this blog to talk about artists I find/love for a few reasons:
1. I like music and it makes me happy to think about music. And I like being happy.
2. It forces me to write in a world that’s outside of what i do for work – and I do in fact, like to write – even if it’s in this blogeeze style that doesn’t reflect more of the professional consulting-esque executive writing I do in the 8-5..
3. It makes me continue to hunt/find/source new music, which, back to #1 – makes me happy.
4. I like to think my musical taste just smells sweeter than most. And look, I know that’s DEFINITELY not the case, but typically, if i find something i like, 85% of the time, I’ll bet i can convince someone else to like at least SOME element/aspect/moment of the artist I’ve found too. So, why not tell the world about it (aka, write) and continue this perpetual cycle?
Today, I’ll share Olivia Dean.. which a musical friend of mine KNEW ABOUT AND HAD BEEN LISTENING TO FOR MONTHS+ and didn’t tell about it, and I was only made aware because ANOTHER friend had them on their Spotify wrapped (which by the way, was COMPLETELY messed up this year, did you hear? – even on mine too. With the new kid, I basically listen to 99% Raffi/Disney songs on Spotify when i’m around him as i just don’t have the personal library of kid-ready-listening stuff ready to go like they do… so when my wrapped said my top artist was NOT Raffi and another artist (…Belmont if you must know – a great pop punk band with an excellent album Liminal out this year, which sure, is fair, but there is zero chance in hell they were my most played artist) I knew something was up – god why do corporations suck sometimes and have to push their own agendas?) and as they named their top 5 wrapped artists, which was 4/5 of the biggest stars you’ve heard of, and then Olivia, who I had not.. I was definitely intrigued and definitely fell in love.
So, get a listen musical friends and I hope you dig her as much as I have over the holiday window.
