Lately, I’ve been getting into the instrumental/math rock scene.. no real particular reason for it. I think it’s pretty fascinating what bands can do outside of the so-called ‘normal’ spectrum of song writing and how composers of that kind of music’s heads actually work.
..
Mine definitely does not work that way.. So let me state some jealously towards those guys.
…
Anywho! I wanted to share my current discoveries in the math rock and the first is the now-defunct Piglet out of Chicago.
The second is another defunct group, Monster Machismo from New York. These guys do incorporate some vocal work into their music and I’m not sure whether it’s the controlled scream-ish..(anguish? passion?) vocals or the complicated time signatures of each one of their tracks, but I’m addicted.
My favorite is below – this is the lead singer playing banjo alongside the highway.. (just ignore the general odd-ness of the video… I’m not sure what the dead deer have to do with anything) but I still don’t know how anyone can do what he does with the banjo.. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
I digress for a few days..Get ready for a paramore review (not going to lie, pretty nervous)
