Walk off the Earth / Gotye

So happy these guys created this. I had seen this on a fellow blogger’s site and hadn’t really paid too much attention to it, I’ll be honest. However, after an urging of a good friend of mine, I checked the video out.

Six people playing a song on a single guitar. I was kinda indifferent. I’ve seen it before, and videos can be found all over youtube on a similar theme. So I put the song in the background and kept on my business. From the song starting off fairly slow and simplistic, it built to something fantastic. A drum beat, a simple bassline, and a little guitar riff. Nothing too special in my mind.. However, as the song went on, and they added the third vocalist, everybody playing together at once, the classy rigidness of the players.. The song quickly grew on me. And then it reallygrew on me. Check it out below:

I think the video is great. And over 10 million in under a month? I think a lot of people agree too. But one must give serious credit to the song. Gotye? Or whomever he is, who has written an awesome song which to me, is eerily reminiscent of the early Peter Gabriel days that lends itself perfectly to this type of cover. I wanted to take the video above one step further and found Gotye’s own music video below:

Okay. Really weird. I thought the song was a little like early Peter, and now with the video, do you also not see the comparison!? Such a little twist off of Sledgehammer. Crazy. Gotye has a solid voice himself and a pretty ingenious little composition with Someone That I Used to Know. I’m a huge fan. I’m going to have to check out his own CD but at first listen to.. I’m fairly impressed so far.

Next blog topic? The featured singer on Gotye’s music video.. Kimbra. I loved her voice on the song with Gotye and I can promise the next post will host a ton of videos by her.. Another nice find. Preview = imogen heap +  amy winehouse + paula cole + ..? You’ll like it. Come on back in a few days
