Okay, hyperpop is a new genre for me and hopefully it’s a new one for you too. It’s pop certainly (hence my label), but these elements of dance/EDM/dubstep/electronic that just add this ‘hurried’ element I really didn’t expect to hit me right in the feels. I’m a big fan, and especially of underscores below..
I feel like Stefan from the old SNL skits saying THIS HAS EVERYTHING. Beats, dance, good production, solid melodies, lyrics, highs, and lows… it’s just got these delightful ear candies I simply cannot get off… and has crazy repeatability to continue to find new things within.
Maybe it’s my love of Imogen Heap that made this hyper pop transition so easy for me..who knows. I will also admit that while this genre was so new to me, I did check out a few other artists… and nothing really resonated with me as much Devon’s stuff does. Gotta give her credit – continuing to work through multiple EPs and refining her sound through a few albums until she’s hit this masterpiece in her U release (her third).
