Over the holidays, I was happily introduced to MEGA who has been quietly carving out her own lane in modern R&B/Soul for a while now (and apparently was a solid base of inspiration for Olivia Dean’s latest album???), and once you hear Chariot, it kind of clicks why people stick around. That song alone does so much heavy lifting – smoky, restrained, and confident in a way that doesn’t beg for attention… fits right in this new vein of Olivia Dean, Samara Joy, Snoh Aalegra, Solange.. Just a great addition to artists you gotta know.
Her music leans into minimal production, slow-burn hooks, and a vocal delivery that feels conversational rather than showy. Tracks like Let Me Let You Go and Sad Girls keep that same slow-burn energy going, leaning into space, groove, and subtle emotion instead of big pop theatrics. Her R&B lives in that late-night zone where less really is more, and the patience in her songwriting is what makes it stick. Once you’re in, you kind of just let the whole catalog roll.
Consider her a gift from Anna for the introduction – I’m happy to have her in my orbit.
